Ayn Rand
While Ayn Rand's economic ideas are abhorrent to me, her philosophy is spot on. Her belief in not initiating force & egoism seems ideal to me. I think that those on the left, such as myself, can learn a lot from Ayn Rand, even though we don't always agree with her. She stood up to a world that was hostile to her & now her books are the second most influential nonfiction in America. I think all leftists should read Rand, as it is healthy to open one's self to opposing points of view, & Rand's rational philosophy is something certain leftists are seriously lacking.
One of my favorite of Ayn Rand's ideas is her rejection of the primitive. It is a shame that not everyone shares this rational viewpoint. Primitivism is an infection on the left that continues to eat away at any remnants of authentic Marxism. ( Marxism is something that the modern left is seriously lacking)
